The Gorter siblings present a multifaceted view of St. Petersburg through the stories of seven of its residents. These individuals, diverse in age, wealth, and character, occasionally intersect. Some, like the 87-year-old Jelena Jakovlevna, remain deeply rooted in the past, with an apartment filled with pre-revolution furniture and a portrait of Stalin. Meanwhile, a young, successful publicist barely remembers Lenin and Stalin. A former Communist Party official is now a prosperous capitalist, while an ex-journalist who once feared the end of the Brezhnev era now struggles financially. The film also captures everyday life in St. Petersburg and the varied settings of these seven people's homes and workplaces, accompanied by striking music composed by Frank Gorter.
