Description:
"The Circle of the Drowned" refers to the black political prisoners held in the old colonial fortress of Oualata, Mauritania, starting in 1987. This film follows one of these former prisoners as he tentatively recounts his experiences and those of his fellow inmates, with the locations of their imprisonment appearing one after another, stripped bare of any reminders of the past.
