Description:
In the chaos following the collapse of the monarchy, Catherine Hubscher, a laundress, saves an Austrian nobleman with the help of her fiancé, Sergeant Lefebvre. Years later, Lefebvre has become a Marshal of the Empire and Duke of Danzig, and Catherine, his former laundress wife, remains by his side. Despite Emperor Napoleon's attempts to force a divorce, fueled by his disapproval of Catherine's lack of social standing, Lefebvre refuses. Summoned to the Emperor, Catherine finds herself in a surprisingly subdued conversation with Bonaparte. The former lieutenant recognizes her – Catherine, the laundress who once extended him credit for laundry debts.
