Description:
Auschwitz-Birkenau was built for mass murder. Thousands were killed at once in gas chambers, their remains reduced to ashes. Starvation, thirst, disease, and forced labor meant most people survived less than three months. Over a million people died in this largest Nazi concentration and extermination camp. Seventy years after being liberated, Kitty Hart-Moxon returns to Auschwitz-Birkenau with students Natalia and Lydia, who are the same age she was when she was there. As Kitty shares her experiences, themes of constant danger, strength, friendship, human endurance, resistance against the Nazis, and maintaining humanity in the face of brutality emerge. Natalia and Lydia ask questions, and Kitty offers answers, sharing her story with a new generation.
