Still Life is a beautiful and moving documentary exploring how personal photographs of life in Palestine before 1948 affect an elderly Palestinian fisherman living in exile in Lebanon. Director Diana Allan highlights the vital role of place and memory in preserving a people’s history. The film features Said Ismael Otruk, born in Acre in the 1930s, who reflects on his childhood and the good old days. His memories, sometimes imperfect, are anchored by photographs he brought with him – images of boys, the harbor, fishing boats, and the sea. In one photo, he reads a note he wrote long ago: "Acre and Said in the Golden Age."
