Jelani secretly married a woman from another tribe, and they fled their country to escape death. After months of perilous journeys, they reach a river. Some who cross perish, while others swim to Europe. However, upon entering Greece, their first European country, Jelani and his family find themselves homeless and marginalized, unable to stay or return. Smugglers suggest entering Germany illegally, but they lack the funds for the entire family's passage. Jelani faces a desperate choice: if one of his children travels alone and arrives safely in Germany, they can help the family get visas. His children will learn a harsh lesson about finding a home, or creating one, and whether Germany offers salvation or just a new kind of hardship.
