Description:

This 1957 film is an adaptation of "Two Lottery Tickets," a novella by Romanian playwright Ion Luca Caragiale, written in 1901. The screenplay was penned by Jean Georgescu, a prominent Romanian filmmaker of the 1940s and 1950s. Aurel Miheleş and Gheorghe Naghi, both recent graduates of the Moscow Film Institute, directed the film. It was Romania's second color feature film. While popular with audiences, the movie received criticism from reviewers, primarily concerning the directing skills of the two debut directors. Miheleş and Naghi continued to collaborate, releasing two more adaptations of Caragiale's work, with "Telegrams" (1959) receiving a Palme d'Or nomination at the 1960 Cannes Film Festival.
