Dubai, a rapidly growing city in the Middle East, is defined by its soaring skyscrapers. These developments are made possible by workers from India, Pakistan, and Nepal, who are paid very little – much like the domestic staff employed by wealthy expats. With eighty percent of the population being foreign, the question arises: who truly calls Dubai home? The city's original inhabitants witness this transformation while navigating new religious and social customs largely ignored by expats. A photography class brings together students from diverse backgrounds to explore their experiences of the city, revealing a stark divide between residents, expats, and laborers in a class-based society where the working class is exploited and the affluent often believe everyone is content.
