Dada Thakur (1962)

This film closely follows the life of Dada Thakur, made during his lifetime. Dada Thakur (Chhabi Biswas) begins by running a newspaper with a hand-operated press, assisted by his wife. He later works with Nalini Kanta Sarkar, a freedom fighter. Together, they launch the newspaper *Jangipur Sangbad*, campaigning against social injustices and drawing the opposition of the powerful. Dada Thakur rescues a woman, Lata, from harassment by Darpanarayan (Biswajeet), the local landowner's son. Lata joins the freedom fighters with Sarkar. Eventually, Darpanarayan himself becomes a supporter of Dada Thakur and joins the fight for India’s independence. Dada Thakur achieves his greatest victory by helping an ordinary shopkeeper get elected as the Municipal Commissioner of Jangipur.
