Description:
Nine-year-old Do-nyum has spent his isolated life in a mountain monastery under his master's care. Despite a rigorous schedule of Buddhist practice, meditation, and work, he constantly longs for his mother, a figure he can't remember but deeply misses, hoping for a future reunion. He also yearns for the carefree life of the local children, wishing he could play and go to school with them. His only companion is the aging monk Jung-sim, who also battles his own spiritual doubts. The temple groundskeeper repeatedly assures Do-nyum that his mother will return. However, weary of waiting, Do-nyum agrees to be adopted by the monastery's wealthy benefactor, a widow who visits annually to remember her deceased son.
