Description:
In 1943, Danuta Siedzikówna, known as "Inka," endured the loss of her mother, murdered by the Gestapo in Bialystok. Her father later died in Tehran after escaping a Soviet prison camp. Orphaned, Inka and her siblings were raised by their grandmother. A nurse in the Polish resistance, she was sentenced to death for joining Major Szendzielarz's unit, which operated under the Polish government in exile. The conviction was based on questionable testimony from local militia, which didn't fully prove her guilt. In a final message to her grandmother, Siedzikówna wrote, "Tell my grandmother that I behaved as I should."
