Description:
Monteforte Toledo, the film's Doctor Zamora, arrives in San Pedro La Laguna, Guatemala, as a young man during the early 20th century military dictatorship. Driven by idealism, Zamora dedicates himself to fighting disease among the indigenous people, despite opposition from the town's military commander. He falls in love with María, an Indian girl from a village, and invites her to live with him in San Pedro. However, Zamora's charm attracts the attention of other young women, and he finds himself caught in the escalating conflict between the Ladinos and the indigenous population.
