Description:
"Volcano," a half-hour silent film shot on 16mm on a Hawaiian volcano, explores problematic issues of representation and aesthetics. It questions the very act of viewing, arguing that understanding something is not true viewing. The film examines the impossibility of recognition – or rather, the viewer's inability to truly engage with something if it relies on familiarity. At that point, the viewer becomes detached from the process of meaning-making through perception and conflict.
