Description:
*Parigi O Cara* is a highly theatrical and beloved Italian film, especially among LGBTQ audiences who know it well. It features Franca Valeri, at the peak of her career (now 90), as Delia, a wealthy and ungenerous prostitute relocating to Paris in search of better opportunities. This unconventional comedy, distinct from the neorealist movement, presents an amoral and somewhat abstract view of the 1960s economic boom and its disappointments. A particularly notable scene involves Delia and her brother (Fiorenzo Fiorentini), where the unspoken question of his homosexuality is explored with memorable nuance and subtle allusions – a groundbreaking portrayal considered one of the earliest examples of a film with a distinctly gay perspective, marked by its perceptive, unconventional, and witty approach. It remains a unique and influential work.
