Description:
This documentary recounts the 1986 K2 tragedy. On August 4th, Diemberger and Julie Tullis reached the summit late in the day. Soon after beginning their descent, Tullis fell, pulling Diemberger with her. They miraculously avoided falling over the edge and spent the night at over 8,000 meters. The following day, they reached Camp IV only to find their tent destroyed by hurricane-force winds, forcing them to share a tent with six other climbers. Tullis died that night, possibly from altitude sickness. Only Willi Bauer, another Austrian climber, survived the descent with Diemberger. Both climbers suffered severe frostbite and required amputations.
