Description:

This Christmas special is often considered the weakest in the series due to two unexpected issues. Writer Talbot Rothwell fell ill and couldn't finish the script, so Dave Freeman had to complete it, but they didn't collaborate effectively, resulting in a less seamless narrative. Additionally, Charles Hawtrey withdrew from the project late in the day. After being third in billing previously, Hawtrey demanded top billing, but the producer refused, instead giving it to Hattie Jacques. This necessitated a quick recast of Hawtrey's role, divided between Norman Rossington and Brian Oulton, both familiar faces from earlier Carry On films. The special presents a series of historical sketches loosely centered on an 18th-century banquet.
