Following in the footsteps of his teacher, Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck traveled to Italy for artistic training. Like Rubens, he was inspired by Venetian Renaissance artists Titian and Giorgione. Van Dyck's most notable works are distinguished by their vibrant colors and exceptional skill in rendering fabric textures. However, he dedicated himself even more to portraiture than Rubens did. Appointed King Charles I of England's Court Painter in 1632, his portraits offer an unparalleled glimpse into the lives of the English aristocracy while showcasing his mastery of the art form.
