Description:
Tunisian-Jewish businessman Alain Berrebi (Michel Boujenah) pursues Ashkenazi princess Arlette Stern (Elsa Zylberstein). Her father David (Maurice Chevit) discovers the death of a peasant from rural Auvergne who sheltered him and his cousin Nathan (Felix Fibich) from the Nazis. Nathan is now a diamond dealer in New York City. David, Nathan, Arlette, and Berrebi travel to Auvergne for the funeral and meet the peasant's son, Jean Bourdalou (Gerard Depardieu), who runs the family restaurants in Paris. Arlette develops a romantic interest in Bourdalou, causing Berrebi to seek comfort from his mother Gaby (Gina Lollobrigida). Later in Paris, Bourdalou and Berrebi begin planning a fashionable restaurant in Manhattan.
