Description:
This 1928 adaptation of Hanns Heinz Ewers' science-fiction novel *Alraune* features Paul Wegener as Professor Brinken, a sociopathic scientist who genetically engineers a young woman named Alraune (Brigitte Helm). Created by combining the genes of a murderer and a prostitute, Alraune is devoid of emotion, particularly guilt. As she matures, she systematically seduces and destroys the men in her life. Professor Brinken's ambition backfires when he develops an obsessive love for Alraune. The story was later remade in 1930 with Brigitte Helm reprising her role, and again in 1951 starring Hildegarde Knef as the heroine and Erich von Stroheim as her misguided mentor.
