Sauerbruch Hutton Architects (2013)

Harun Farocki admires the architectural firm Sauerbruch Hutton, particularly their GSW Highrise in Berlin's Kreuzberg district. The building’s 18-story concave facade features hundreds of windows, each with a subtly different colored blind. This creates a constantly shifting, monumental composition as occupants adjust the blinds for sunlight, sometimes fully or partially closing them. Farocki finds the architects’ approach compelling: ecologically efficient, inventive, and playful yet thoughtful, all while remaining true to modern architectural principles without being rigid.
