The vibrant cities of Africa offer filmmakers a wealth of stories, and *African Metropolis* presents six short films exploring the complexities of urban life in Abidjan, Cairo, Dakar, Johannesburg, Lagos, and Nairobi. Spanning various genres, each film centers on the city as a central character. A Jewish pensioner finds himself alone in a Johannesburg apartment, a solitary figure in a constantly evolving city. In a futuristic Nairobi, a man searches for his ideal love. Dakar provides the setting for a heartfelt dialogue between two women. Abidjan, once home to artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, features in one story. In Cairo, a musician observes the widening divide between wealth and poverty. And the final film examines the dangers of being trapped in poverty.
