Description:
Rastus is a man who only works when he has to, preferring to rest when he has a little money. Seeking a comfortable place to sleep, he's drawn to a stream bank in the sunlight and settles down for a nap. He dreams of a journey to the water, where soft cotton bales create luxurious couches. Passing a sailors' boarding house, the sight of sailor suits and the promise of good wages captivate him, and he unknowingly signs on for a voyage. Despite being outfitted with new clothes, Rastus quickly becomes overwhelmed and is forced onto the ship by the captain. The vessel is wrecked off the African coast, leaving Rastus as the only survivor.
