Description:
*Artificial Light* presents the same scene twenty times, each iteration a variation on a single filmic moment. The film features informal portraits of a group of young New York artists as they talk, drink wine, laugh, and smoke. The individual shots flow together smoothly with lap dissolves, culminating in two wide shots of the group and then a slow zoom into an image of the moon. A distance exists between the scene itself and its formal presentation, a gap both intellectual and stylistic. Frampton's films are built on logical structures, often exploring bold ideas.
