Description:

Considered one of the very first horror films ever created, this movie is now lost to time. The film features a darkly comedic scene where a coffin breaks open, the corpse falls out, and is miraculously revived. These kinds of startling moments, along with street scenes and depictions of geisha dancing, were typical of early Japanese cinema, developed by pioneers Shiro Asano and Shibata Tsunekichi starting in 1897. Filmmakers naturally gravitated towards the most dramatic and unusual scenes to create impact. This film is remembered by cameraman Shiro Asano, but no other details are known about it.
