In the summer of 1977, NASA launched Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 on a monumental journey into interstellar space. Traveling together and separately, the spacecraft will continue until the universe's end. Each carries a golden record – a collection of images and sounds representing humanity's best. As Carl Sagan said, the record will only be found and played if advanced civilizations exist. But sending it is a hopeful message about life on Earth. It was during the creation of the golden record that Sagan met and fell in love with his future wife, Annie Druyan; the record became their expression of love for humanity and for each other. In the summer of 2010, I embarked on my own hopeful journey into the unknown. This film is a love letter to that journey. - Penny Lane
