Description:
In 1824, English adventurer John McGee and his young wife journey to the Soconusco area of Chiapas, hoping to establish a coffee plantation and build a prosperous life. They arrive to find the region in turmoil, having recently broken away from Guatemala and struggling under an unstable government for 18 years. John's aspirations are repeatedly thwarted, forcing him to seek safety on his own property under the protection of the local clergy. His daughter Isabel's dowry presents a final opportunity to realize his dream, leading him to negotiate with coffee plant and slave traders, Geronimo and Julian. Amidst the jungle's beauty and danger, a tale of love and betrayal unfolds, intertwined with the introduction of coffee to Chiapas.
