During the 1940s and 1950s, New York City nightlife thrived, with Toots Shor's restaurant and saloon at its center. Documentary filmmaker Kristi Jacobson profiles her grandfather, Toots Shor, the renowned owner of the popular establishment. Edward R. Murrow famously called Shor the owner of America’s greatest saloon. For three decades, Shor’s became a gathering place for many of the era's prominent figures: celebrities like Frank Sinatra and Jackie Gleason, alongside politicians, sports heroes, and gangsters, including names like DiMaggio, Ruth, Costello, Eisenhower, Nixon, and Warren. They all frequented Shor's on West 51st Street.
