Description:
King Ahasverus of Persia and Media dismisses his queen, Vashti, and selects Esther, chosen from among maidens across his vast kingdom, as his new queen. With guidance from her uncle and guardian, Mordecai, Esther prevents the king's assassination. When Haman, the king’s favorite, is insulted by Mordecai’s refusal to bow, he secures a decree ordering the death of all Jews in the kingdom, bearing the king's seal. Esther appeals to the king for her people, and Mordecai is granted permission to issue his own decree under the royal seal. Mordecai’s actions lead to widespread bloodshed. The story is commemorated annually by the festival of Purim. The film concludes with commentary from the cast.
