Description:
Amidst a year of strict military rule in Turkey, a writer is deeply affected by the death of a close friend and seeks refuge in his isolated hometown on an island, hoping to escape the political unrest. There, he retreats into his memories, imagining conversations with his deceased friend. However, news of a new murder reveals that danger is closer than he thought. Shot in Turkey after years of military rule, *Av Zamani* incorporates autobiographical elements, as director Erden Kiral himself was an exile in Germany fleeing his own country's repressive regime. The film's limitation is that the director struggles to distance himself enough from the specific events to create a broader, more universal story. *Av Zamani* was presented at the Montreal World Film Festival in 1988.
