Description:
This film recounts the second attempt to create a feature film from over 200,000 feet of footage shot by Sergei Eisenstein in Mexico in 1931-32 for American socialist author Upton Sinclair. The planned film, "Que Viva Mexico," was never finished due to lack of money and Stalin's order for Eisenstein's return to the Soviet Union. A previous editing effort in the U.S. produced "Thunder Over Mexico" in 1934. In 1940, Marie Seton of the UK acquired some of the original footage from the Sinclairs with the goal of producing a more complete version based on Eisenstein's initial plans, but that film is now lost.
