Description:
In 1981, following the closure of many live music venues in Athens' Plaka district, musicians Spiros Podaras and Christos Tolos opened Cafe Santan in Volos, a quiet provincial town. The bar quickly became a hub for artistic expression, transforming the lives of the town's youth and becoming a legendary landmark. For 28 years, renowned Greek and international artists performed live at Cafe Santan. In 2009, the building was reclaimed by its owner for private use and slated for demolition. Cafe Santan's final nights as a live music venue were filled with performances, reunions of regulars, new faces, and memories of rock and roll.
