Description:
"Polka in Athens" is a documentary about Maria, whose grandfather was a Greek left-wing partisan during the Civil War. He fled to Poland and lived there as a political refugee for three decades. Maria grew up in Poland and, like many young people, later moved to Greece for work and travel. She settled in a Polish neighborhood in Athens, pursuing her dream of becoming an actress. Ironically, she landed a significant role in a play about the Civil War, "Dying as a Country." This mirrors her family's history: her grandfather's escape to Poland and her own return to Greece as an economic immigrant. However, following the financial crisis in Athens, Maria faces the prospect of returning to Poland, completing the cycle of immigration.
