Description:
Zsadányi escapes authorities with his goddaughter, Bankós Mari, fleeing into the forest. The story then jumps thirty years into the future: Zsadányi and Mari are now in love, but their romance is shadowed by the sounds of war. Zsadányi’s old friends have aligned themselves with the Nazis, while the landowner, living peacefully with his people, grows estranged from them. Zsadányi is blamed for the country's political troubles and faces a death sentence.
