Filmmaker Lawrence Johnston recounts his life growing up with his Aboriginal father, Colin, and non-Indigenous mother, Gloria, as one of six siblings. Their marriage was marked by conflict and abuse. This deeply personal film explores love, marriage, family, and commitment through the lens of how his parents' relationship shaped his expectations for his own romantic life. Johnston’s debut feature, *Life*, won the FIPRESCI International Critics Prize at the 1996 Toronto Film Festival and received multiple nominations at the Australian Film Institute and Critics Circle Awards, including for Best Actor and Best Screenplay.
