The Phantasmagoria of Defeat (2014)

This film profiles Yorgos Tzinoudis, a pop artist. It follows him from his car to the covers of *Soul* magazine, his refrigerator, and his paintings. A restless individual, he attempts to depict human alienation and urban stress in his work – themes that resonate with everyone. His paintings feature unusual imagery, like skulls and cockroaches, alongside playing cards, used to satirize reality through subtle references. The film documents him at work, at the Wine Museum and Gerovassiliou vineyard, in his house/studio, and wandering the city. Friends and colleagues share their perspectives on him before he departs Thessaloniki for new explorations of his art and inner world.
