Description:
In 1967, Brazilian filmmaker Glauber Rocha was commissioned by Olivetti to make a documentary about Brasília, the newly built capital city. Established in the 1950s and officially founded in 1960, Brasília was intended to encourage settlement of Brazil's interior and represent an ideal of democratic urban design, avoiding the social divisions common in other cities. However, *Brasília, Contradições de uma Cidade Nova* (1968) reveals that this vision of utopia applied only to the affluent, mirroring the same social issues found throughout Brazil.
