Description:
This new version of Nagasaki's Yami utsu shinzô (1982) is both a revisiting and a continuation of the original, while also functioning as a documentary exploring the effects of time and a sometimes humorous commentary on filmmaking itself. Shigeru Muroi and Takashi Naito, now prominent Japanese actors, reprise their roles from the 1982 film, their characters having followed separate paths. Meanwhile, a new couple (Honda and Eguchi) find themselves in identical circumstances to their predecessors 25 years prior. Their lives intersect, creating an opportunity for the older characters to find some resolution and for the younger couple to receive unexpected support.
