Seven Songs for Malcolm X (1993)

The Black Audio Film Collective's seventh film explores the death and enduring legacy of the African American revolutionary, presented as a seven-part study in imagery. Novelist Toni Cade Bambara and actor Giancarlo Espesito narrate the film, which uses stylized tableaux vivants to depict Malcolm X’s life. The visuals draw inspiration from early 20th-century funeral photography by James Van der Zee and the distinctive cinematography of Sergei Paradjanov's *The Colour of Pomegranates*.
