Description:
From 1947 to 1951, over 80,000 Greeks – men, women, and children – were deported to Makronissos, an island re-education camp designed to suppress Communism. Among the exiles were writers and poets like Yannis Ritsos and Tassos Livaditis. Despite harsh conditions and torture, they wrote poems about surviving in this internment world. Some of these poems, hidden in the camps, were rediscovered. "Like Lions of Stone at the Gateway of Night" combines these writings with the re-education propaganda broadcast through the camp loudspeakers. The film features long shots of the ruined camp, interspersed with archival photographs, creating a trance-like journey that remembers a lost battle and forgotten places.
