Description:
The Funeral Party, based on the novel by Booker Prize winner Ludmila Ulitskaya, takes place in August 1991. In a hot New York City apartment, a group of Russian émigrés gathers around Alik, a beloved and charismatic artist, as he nears death. The women among them care for him, sharing memories of Alik and their lives in Russia, often amidst lively arguments. They debate his affections, whether he should be baptized at the last moment by his wife, Nina, or reconciled to his faith by a rabbi present in the room. Meanwhile, they grapple with the significance of the Yeltsin coup unfolding in their distant Moscow, broadcast live on CNN.
