Description:
In Minas Gerais, the influential "colonel" Alexandrão marries the young and untouched Cristina, celebrating with a lavish wedding at his farm. He indulges in food and drink throughout the day, but dies before consummating their marriage on their wedding night. Cristina is left in an unusual situation as a virgin widow. Her doctor suggests she travel to Rio de Janeiro for rest, so she moves in with her aunt into an inherited apartment in Leme. There, Constantino, a sly character aware of her wealth, begins courting her and borrowing from his acquaintances, falsely presenting himself as a businessman. His friends launch "stocks" based on the possibility of him marrying Cristina. However, the ghost of Coronel Alexandrão appears to her whenever she tries to be intimate with Constantino.
