Die Braut (1999)

The intense and passionate relationship between German literary giant Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Christiane Vulpius, a village girl, began with an instant connection. They shared 28 years together, 18 of them as lovers, and 10 as husband and wife. Goethe's former favorite, Charlotte von Stein, fuels resentment and plots against Christiane. Enduring constant insults and social exclusion, including being forced to hide with their son in the servants' quarters and remain home during official events, Christiane finds solace in Goethe's marriage proposal after saving his life during a Napoleonic attack. Her newfound status as Goethe's wife sparks envy and resentment from society.
