Description:
This short musical film honors samba composer Zé Ketti, a major figure in Brazilian popular music. Friends gather at the late composer’s home in Rio’s Inhaúma neighborhood for a jam session, preparing a traditional “feijoada” while playing his music. The accomplished samba musicians pay tribute to Ketti, known as "the hill's voice," a metaphor for the favelas where many of Brazil’s poor reside, in contrast to the city's wealthier areas. Attendees include members of the renowned Portela samba school and former collaborators. An empty chair with a black hat symbolizes Ketti himself, who died in 1999 after a distinguished career and appearances in three films by Dos Santos: "Rio, 40 Graus," "Rio Zona Norte," and "Boca de Ouro."
