Description:
Following World War II, a group of war-displaced people establish themselves in a ruined Italian village, determined to rebuild their lives and the city itself, inspired by the women of Messina who rebuilt their earthquake-destroyed city. Their fragile community experiences a strained dynamic of respect and distrust. This becomes further complicated by the arrival of a government representative who declares the land belongs to no one. The film draws from excerpts of Elio Vittorini's novella, 'The Women of Messina'.
