Description:

"Forty Boys and a Song," a 1941 documentary directed by Irving Allen, profiles the Robert Mitchell Boy Choir. The choir, made up of boys aged eight to fourteen, performed in Hollywood films for over three decades under the direction of organist Robert Mitchell. The boys attended school until 1 PM, then practiced their singing. The film also shows them performing in church on Sundays and camping together, as they are all members of the same Boy Scouts troop. It received an Oscar nomination for Best Short Subject, One-Reel.
