The recent passage of strict immigration laws in Arizona prompted a lawsuit from the Obama administration, highlighting a larger national issue: the absence of a comprehensive U.S. immigration policy. Instead, lawmakers have implemented costly, piecemeal solutions, with the border fence being the most expensive, running 150 miles south of Arizona's capital through the desert.
