Description:

Walter Connolly plays composer Victor Herbert in this film. The screenplay focuses on Herbert's music rather than his biography, with a note at the end acknowledging the lack of factual details. Like in his own operettas, Herbert spends much of the film mediating the troubled marriage of tenor John Ramsey (Allan Jones) and Louise Hall (Mary Martin). Many of Herbert's well-known compositions are featured, including "Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life," "March of the Toys," and "Kiss Me Again," the latter sung by Susanna Foster. The film secured the rights to Herbert's songs but not to the stage shows they originated in, which explains some unusual musical choices.
