Description:
In *Paris Underground*, Constance Bennett stars alongside Gracie Fields as an American and an Englishwoman caught in Paris when the Nazis invade. The two women join forces to aid Allied airmen in escaping the occupied city to safety in Free French territory. The film's story is inspired by the real-life wartime efforts of Etta Shiber, who helped nearly 300 Allied pilots escape. However, the film proved unsuccessful, with British fans of Gracie Fields uncomfortable with her character's torture and Constance Bennett's audience having dwindled in previous years. *Paris Underground* became Bennett's final starring role and Fields' last film.
