Description:
Caroline de Bienre, a 16-year-old French noblewoman, encounters the charming rogue Gaston de Sallanches, who is expected to propose to her older sister. Instead, Gaston seeks refuge with Caroline in the château's attic, and they begin a secret affair. While Caroline is courted by the earnest Livio, she remains devoted to Gaston. The 1789 revolution erupts, and Caroline is sent to a convent, but her carriage is intercepted. She escapes and finds Gaston with another woman. Heartbroken, Caroline agrees to marry Livio, now a disgraced revolutionary and in danger, knowing she is also now a target.
