Description:

Westerplatte is a small peninsula guarding the entrance to Gdańsk Harbour. In the years before World War II, it served as a Polish ammunition depot in the Free City of Danzig, manned by 182 people: one infantry company and civilians. It was the sole Polish outpost at the Vistula River's mouth, with minimal defenses – just five sentries, one cannon, two anti-tank guns, and four mortars. The first shots of World War II were fired there. This film recounts the story of the brave men who defended Westerplatte.
